If you’re currently a college student, volunteer with us! Help us prepare high schoolers for the college admissions process!
As of right now, you can either be a Mentor and/or an Essay Editor! Both positions involve training so that we can provide equally excellent assistance to all high school students.
Please apply only if you are certain that you can commit time to your position and carry out your tasks responsibly. Additionally, please note that all volunteers are subject to a background check.
Mentor’s Responsibilities
The goal of our mentorship program is to provide accurate advice straight from a college student.
A mentor-mentee relationship is built on honesty and transparency, so our mentors must uphold those qualities. Mentors must be eager and able to learn more about the college admissions process through our short training process. Mentors must be willing to help high school students in their journey of applying to college and be open to sharing advice, tips, and their own experiences.
Once you’re matched with a mentee, please make sure you’re sticking to our guidelines.
How to become a Mentor:
Phase One
- Be a current college student.
- Fill out this form. Allow up to a week for us to review your application and contact you.
Phase Two
- You’ll be sent the training material (a PowerPoint and a quiz) as well as a background check form. Complete the background check first, then the training. Finishing both as soon as possible is best!
- Failure to complete the background check form will result in your application being rejected.
- If the quiz results are not satisfactory, we will contact you again with the issue(s) and you can take the quiz again!
Phase Three
- When approved, we will match you with your high school mentee who you’ll be giving your mentorship to! Please note that we can only match as many mentors to mentees as high school students available; we’ll try our best to quickly get you matched.
Essay Editor’s Responsibilities
Essay editors must have good writing skills. You must edit in a way that is helpful but doesn’t change the student’s personal voice. Essay editors must be aware of deadlines and finish editing their assigned essay within a week. They must also be able to communicate well as they’ll have to notify both the org and the student when the essay is finished. Additionally, editors must adhere to our method of editing.
